Even after 150 years it's one of the most tender leaf lettuces.
One of the most easily grown and most reliable varieties, growing well during the hot Summer when most others are failures, therefore most satisfactory and popular for home use, but also largely grown for the market, especially in the Western States. It is a good shipper and it does equally well outdoors as in the greenhouse. Very early, slow to go to seed, with broad, crumpled leaves of very light green color, tender and sweet
