Strawberry Furtuna Box 6 Plants

Six plants. One strawberry patch.Fortuna is the early, heavy-cropping variety grown for Kuwait's winter season. These are established plants — first berries in about 6–8 weeks.

Large, glossy, well-shaped red fruit with a sweet flavour. Keeps well in the fridge.

Six plants fill a 60 cm trough or six 20 cm pots — enough for a bowl of berries every few days through the season.

Season: Plant October–December. Fruits December through April, then slows as the heat arrives.

How deepthe one thing that matters

crown at soil levelcrown buried · rotsroots showing · dries out

The crown is the short thick stem where the leaves start. Keep it sitting right on the soil surface — not under it, not above it.

How to space them

trough 60 cm+ · 3 per trough · 2 troughspots 20 cm wide · one each · 6 pots

Strawberries hate crowding. Give each plant its own space and air moves between the leaves — fewer rotten berries.

Planting steps in detail

You need: Potting Soil Mix, a few handfuls of compost, and either six 20 cm pots or two 60 cm troughs. Holes in the bottom are a must.

1. Fill pots with Potting Soil Mix. Mix in a handful of compost per pot. Water the soil first.

2. Water the plants an hour before. Squeeze the small pot, slide the plant out with the soil ball whole. Never pull the stem.

3. Make a hole the size of the soil ball. Set the plant so the crown (where the leaves start) sits exactly at the soil surface.

4. Press gently, water until it drains out the bottom. Keep in bright shade for 2 days, then full morning sun.

5. Lay a thin layer of dry straw, wood chips or a strawberry mat around each plant so berries never touch wet soil.

Late afternoon, never at noon. No feeding for the first 2 weeks.

Growing in Kuwait — sun, heat and water

October–February: full sun all day. This is the best growing weather of the year — do not shade them.

March–April: when afternoons pass 30°C, move pots to morning sun and afternoon shade, or add 30% shade net. Water may be needed twice a day.

May onwards: fruiting stops. Either enjoy them as a green plant in shade and restart in October, or compost them and buy fresh plants next season — fresh plants fruit better.

Water: finger in the soil to the second knuckle. Dry — water. Damp — wait. Always at the base; wet leaves and berries rot.

Birds and ants: both love ripe berries. A light net over the plants, and pick fruit as soon as it's red.

Why Fortuna

Fortuna is a short-day variety bred for warm-winter climates — it sets fruit early in cool weather and keeps going through spring. It makes large, firm, glossy berries that travel and store well. It is the variety commercial growers in the Gulf rely on, grown here at Sadeer Farms.
