The Gulf Cheat Code
قاعدة الخليج الذهبية
Gardening advice from cooler, wetter climates doesn’t always translate to the Gulf. Our arid heat, saline soils, and reversed growing season ask for a different approach — here’s the quick version.
نصايح الزراعة من الدول الباردة والممطرة ما تنطبق دايماً على الخليج. حرارتنا، وتربتنا المالحة، وموسمنا المقلوب يبون طريقة مختلفة شوي — وهذي الخلاصة.
In the Gulf we plant all year but mostly in the fall and winter (September–April). Summer is survival time, not planting time.
في الخليج نزرع في الخريف والشتاء (أكتوبر–مارس). الصيف وقت راحة، مو وقت زراعة.
Summer hits 50°C+. Even "full sun" plants need some shade from 11 AM–3 PM.
الصيف يوصل ٥٠°م+. حتى النباتات اللي تحب الشمس تبي ظل من ١١ الصبح لـ ٣ العصر.
Our sand drains too fast and has almost no nutrients. You'll need potting mix or compost.
رمل الخليج يصرّف الماي بسرعة وما فيه مغذيات. لازم تخلط تربة زراعية أو كمبوست.
Early morning or before sunset. Watering at noon wastes too much to evaporation.
الصبح بدري أو بعد المغرب. السقي الظهر يضيّع نص الماي بالتبخر.
5 Rules for First-Time Gardeners
٥ قواعد لأول مرة تزرع
🗺️ Start small
🗺️ ابدأ صغير جداً
One or few pots. Seriously. Most beginners fail because they try to grow 20 things at once and can't keep up. Grow one basil plant. Win. Add more later.
حوض واحد. نبتة وحدة. بصدق. أكثر المبتدئين يفشلون لأنهم يزرعون ٢٠ شي دفعة وحدة وما يلحقون عليهم. ازرع ريحانة وحدة. اكسب. زيد بعدين.
🌤️ Find 4–6 hours of sun
🌤️ دوّر ٤–٦ ساعات شمس
Any sunny spot works — balcony, windowsill, yard corner. East-facing spots are the sweet spot.
أي مكان شمس يسوي — بلكونة، شباك، زاوية الحوش. بالخليج شمس الصبح ذهب وشمس العصر قاسية. الجهة الشرقية هي الأفضل.
🪴 Buy real potting mix
🪴 اشتر تربة زراعية جاهزة
Don’t dig up your backyard. A bag of our Potting Soil Mix is the easiest start. A simple beginner blend: 1 part compost + 1 part coco peat + 1 part Corlite.
لا تحفر حوشك. أسهل بداية كيس تربة زراعية جاهزة. خلطة بسيطة: جزء كمبوست + جزء كوكو بيت + جزء كورلايت.
💦 Water deep, not often
💦 اسقي غزير مو كثير
Stick your finger into the soil. If it's dry, water thoroughly. If it's damp, walk away. Overwatering kills more plants than any other thing.
حط صبعك داخل التربة إنش. إذا ناشف، اسقي زين لين يطلع ماي من تحت. إذا رطب، اتركه. السقي الزايد يقتل نباتات أكثر من الحرارة.
⏰ Plant at the right time

This is 80% of success in the Gulf. Planting tomatoes in May = disaster. Planting them in October = easy win. Use the calendar below.
هذي ٨٠٪ من النجاح في الخليج. زراعة الطماط في مايو = كارثة. زراعتها في أكتوبر = نجاح أكيد. استخدم التقويم تحت.
6 Plants That Almost Can't Fail

Forgiving, fast, and satisfying. Start with any of these and you'll get harvests in weeks, not months.
سهلة، سريعة، وتعطيك نتيجة. ابدأ بأي وحدة وراح تحصد خلال أسابيع.

اختر الشهر. هذا تقويم كويتي حقيقي — مو عام — مبني على سنوات من الزراعة هني.
Mistakes Every Beginner Makes
أخطاء يسويها كل مبتدئ
Overwatering suffocates roots. Check the soil first. Most plants want a deep drink every 2–3 days, not a sprinkle daily.
السقي الزايد يخنق الجذور. تأكد من التربة الأول. أكثر النباتات تبي ري غزير كل يومين–ثلاث، مو رشة كل يوم.
Tomatoes need time to grow before summer cooks them. Plant in October or early November — not March.
الطماط يبي وقت يكبر قبل ما يحرقه الصيف. ازرعه في أكتوبر أو بداية نوفمبر — مو مارس.
Even cacti need water, drainage, and the right soil. No plant is zero-maintenance. But some are very forgiving — see the list above.
حتى الصبار يبي ماي وتصريف وتربة مناسبة. ما في نبات بدون اهتمام. بس فيه نباتات متسامحة — شوف القائمة فوق.
If you're excited in summer, use that energy to prep. Buy pots, mix soil, plan the fall garden. Or explore the world of microgreens and sprouting. Planting starts in September.
إذا متحمس بالصيف، استفيد من الحماس في التحضير. اشتر أحواض، جهز التربة، خطط لحديقة الخريف. الزراعة تبدأ في سبتمبر.
Every pot MUST have holes at the bottom. Roots sitting in water will rot in days. If the pot has no holes, drill them.
Or skip the drill — Smart Pots are fabric and drain through the whole bottom.
كل حوض لازم فيه فتحات تصريف. الجذور اللي تجلس بالماي تعفن بأيام. إذا الحوض ما فيه فتحات، حفّرها.
أو تجنّب الحفر — أحواض سمارت بوت من قماش وتصرّف من كل تحتها.
Every gardener, including the pros, kills plants. Figure out what happened and try again. Gardens are built on compost.
Turn the loss into next season’s fuel — a bag of compost or a Compost Sak does it.
كل مزارع — حتى المحترف — يموت له نباتات. هذي معلومات مو فشل. اكتشف وش صار وحاول مرة ثانية. الحديقة تتبنى على الكمبوست.

The Absolute-Beginner Checklist ✅
قائمة أول مرة تزرع ✅
- Pick ONE plant from the 6-plant list above. Just one.
- Buy: a pot with drainage holes or a fabric pot, a bag of organic potting mix, and your seeds or seedling.
- Find a spot that gets 4–6 hours of morning sun. In the ground, balcony, windowsill, or yard — all fine.
- Fill the pot with soil. Plant your seed at the depth on the packet (usually 2× the seed's size) or transplant your seedling.
- Water gently until it drips from the bottom. Then wait.
- Check the soil daily by poking a finger in. Water only when the top inch is dry.
- Take a photo on day 1. Take another every week. Watch it grow.
- When you harvest, post it and tag @itallgrows. You did it. 🌱
- اختر نبتة وحدة فقط من قائمة الـ ٦ فوق. وحدة بس.
- اشتر: حوض فيه فتحات تصريف، كيس تربة زراعية عضوية، وبذور أو شتلة من مشتل قريب.
- دوّر مكان يوصله ٤–٦ ساعات شمس الصبح. بلكونة، شباك، أو حوش — كلها تمام.
- عبّي الحوض بالتربة. ازرع البذرة على العمق المكتوب بالعلبة (عادة ٢–٣ أضعاف حجم البذرة) أو انقل الشتلة.
- اسقي برفق لين يطلع ماي من تحت. وبعدين انتظر.
- تأكد من التربة كل يوم بصبعك. اسقي بس إذا الإنش الأول ناشف.
- صوّر أول يوم. وبعدها كل أسبوع. شوفها تكبر.
