A round fabric raised bed in black, about 127 cm across and 30 cm deep. No frame, no screws: unfold it, fill it and plant the same afternoon. Deep enough for root crops, wide enough for a real mix of vegetables, and the fabric keeps the soil breathing and cooler through our season.
One bag of our Potting Soil Mix fills 5 gallons. The numbers below are for one bed, planted the way we plant at home.
about 61 cm across, 30 cm deep · 57 litres
Grow: 1 tomato with 2 basil around it · 3 peppers · 8 lettuce · 6 strawberries · a herb corner of 5 plants · 25 radishes
Soil: 3 bags
about 127 cm across, 30 cm deep · 380 litres
Grow: 3 tomatoes, 4 peppers and basil · 20 lettuce · 1 melon or pumpkin with lettuce at the edges · 8 seed potatoes · a full kitchen garden: tomato, pepper, chard, herbs and radishes together
Soil: 20 bags
Choose the spot first: it is heavy once filled. Four to six hours of morning sun is ideal in Kuwait; afternoon shade in summer helps. Unfold the bed, fill it with potting mix (not garden sand) up to a hand-width from the top, water well and let it settle, then plant. Water until it comes through the fabric. In summer the soil dries faster than in a plastic bed, so check it with your finger more often.
