A soft fabric pot in black with two cut handles, so you can lift it and move it as the sun changes. The fabric lets air reach the soil from every side. Roots stay cool, water drains on its own, and the plant grows a fuller root system than it would in a plastic pot of the same size.

Why we use fabric pots

  • Roots breathe. When a root reaches the fabric wall it stops and branches, instead of circling. The result is a strong, healthy root ball.
  • Hard to overwater. Extra water leaves through the fabric, so the soil never sits in water.
  • Cooler soil in our heat. The fabric releases heat instead of holding it like black plastic does.
  • Lasts for years. Empty it, rinse it, fold it, and use it again next season.

Which size? What can you grow in it?

One bag of our Potting Soil Mix fills 5 gallons. The numbers below are for one pot, planted the way we plant at home.

7 gallon pot

7 gallon · 26 litres

about 36 cm wide, 24 cm tall

Grow: 1 tomato, or 1 cucumber on a trellis · 2 peppers · 4 herbs together · 5 lettuce · 20 radishes or carrots

Soil: 1½ bags

10 gallon pot

10 gallon · 41 litres

about 41 cm wide, 29 cm tall

Grow: 1 large tomato or 1 zucchini · 2 peppers · 2–3 seed potatoes · 6 lettuce or a mixed salad pot · 1 cucumber with basil

Soil: 2 bags

How to use it

Open the pot and fold the top edge out once so it stands well. Fill it with potting mix, not garden sand, and plant. Water until it comes out through the fabric. In summer, check the soil more often: fabric pots dry faster than plastic. Place it on a tray or tile if it sits on a balcony floor, because water passes through the base.
